OEM status for HIRTH Engines

BD-Micro
Technologies, Inc. is pleased to announce that we have recently attained OEM
status for HIRTH engines.
This status allows us to purchase Hirth engines at manufacturer prices
for use in the products we manufacture and offer for sale.
Consequently, we will be completing final installation details for the
Hirth 2706 engine, which will become available as part of our complete FLIGHTLINE
Series BD-5B kit. Additionally, the engine and comprehensive installation
packages will be made available to builders of existing BD-5 materials kits.
With
our purchase of the assets of BD-Micro Aviation in 1992, we conducted extensive
research on viable engines for the BD-5. At
that time, a few particular engines caught our attention.
Of the reciprocating engines we looked at, the (then 2705) Hirth appeared
very well suited to the BD-5 and had technical features that set it apart.
We talked with pilots flying with the engine in other aircraft, and all
had favorable reports. Later in
1992, we devoted a section of our catalog THE BD-5 SOURCE
to providing information on the engine and completed much of the installation
development work. At that time, we
chose to continue promoting the Hirth, while opting to focus development
resources on our Turboprop powerplant system.
We also provided BD-5 builders assistance with installation of the
2705/2706 on an individual basis. The Hirth 2706 is the ONLY reciprocating
engine we currently recommend for the BD-5 aircraft.
There
are many features that make the Hirth 2706 the logical choice reciprocating
engine for the BD-5 aircraft:

Size, weight and horsepower ideally suited to the
BD-5 original design requirements.

Economical acquisition and operating costs (approx.
4.2 GPH fuel @ 75% power).
§
Available factory new with 1YEAR UNLIMITED
WARRANTY and factory support. 1,000 hr TBO rating.
§
The 2706 engine was originally designed as an
aircraft engine, and thus utilizes highest grade materials and quality
workmanship.
§
Cylinders feature Al-Nikasil coating for a super
low coefficient of friction, reducing engine heat and wear.
This coating eliminates the need for cast iron sleeves in the cylinders.
As a result, pistons and cylinders expand at the same rate providing a
seizure resistant engine.
§
Integral fan cooling system.
§
Computer controlled ignition system- standard
equipment. Provides easy starting
and 7,000 rpm speed limit protection.
§
Electronic Fuel Injection option provides
increased (up to 30%) fuel economy and automates altitude mixture control.
At 75% power fuel consumption is approx. 3.2 GPH.
THIS IS AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN MOST 4-CYCLE ENGINES AT EQUIVALENT CRUISE
HORSEPOWER.

Coming Soon: Oil Injection option.
Controlled by engine electronics. Eliminates
premixing of fuel. Will retrofit to
earlier 2706 engines. Expected Late 1999.
Our
installation packages will be comprehensive and thorough, as with other products
we offer. This is in response to
the majority of the requests we receive. We
have found this provides greater assurance of the engine being installed
correctly and successfully, while reducing construction to a reasonable time,
and dramatically reducing support
time and cost. Our FLIGHTLINE
Series powerplant system will get you to the flightline faster.
