first step in building a BD-5 from an original materials kit is gathering
information.
The
BD-5 requires above average building and piloting skills. This is
a high performance aircraft and can be unforgiving if not built correctly.
The
complex nature of the aircraft does not lend itself to modification, and
many instances have proven this. BMT information services will enable
a builder to complete his BD-5 in a safe and efficient manner, while
providing peace of mind to the pilot.
The

It is recommended that if you are considering building a BD-5 or purchasing
a used BD-5 kit that you obtain a complete set of BD-MICRO NEWSLETTER reprints.
The newsletters will help you to decide if that "bargain" priced, 90% complete,
used BD-5 kit is truly a bargain. You may end up with a pig in the
poke.

JIG
DRILLING SERVICES
JIG ALIGNMENT AND
DRILLING
To
accurately build a compound curved aluminum skinned airplane, such
as the BD-5, without the use of jigs and fixtures is nearly impossible
and extremely time consuming. One of the main objectives of BMT is
to simplify and speed up BD-5 construction while assuring the builder of
a safe and reliable airplane. Jig alignment and drilling is one of
the most important services that BD-Micro Technologies, Inc. provides
the BD-5 builder.
When
a builder chooses to have his parts jigged, not only will he save countless
hours in construction time, he is assured that all of the assembly is correct.
Ask anybody who has used the A&D service. Also, talk to a builder
who has trashed a horizontal stab while attempting to constuct it on his
own. Or look at the fuselages of those who have not had theirs jig
drilled. Once jig A&D is completed it is very difficult to assemble
the aircraft incorrectly. Alignment and jig drilling is the first
step towards a straight and fast, safe and reliable BD-5.
